    Brandon PTA announcements for the week April 29, 2013


    STAR testing for 2nd through 6th graders begins this week and continues through May 10th. Testing is from 8:25-10:30 am each day. During testing, the campus will be closed (gates locked) and quiet enforced. If your student is late, they will have to wait in the office until testing is completed.

    BRANDON YEARBOOKS ON SALE NOW – Order Forms due this Monday, April 29th
    Remember Monday is the last day to turn in your Brandon Yearbook 2012-2013 Order Form. Please return the order form in your child’s Friday Folder or in the PTA Box on the counter in the office.BRANDON YEARBOOKS ARE $15 PER BOOK, cash or check made out to Brandon PTA.

    The PTA will host a staff luncheon on Wednesday, May 8th. This is a special time to show the staff at Brandon how much we appreciate their time with our children. Here are some ways you can make this time even more special:
    Assist with preparing the staff lounge for the luncheon.
    Help to clean the staff lounge following the luncheon.
    Prepare a warm dish or a salad.
    Donate money to help assist with purchasing ingredients and decorations.
    Prepared items can be dropped off in the teachers’ lounge by 11:00 on May 8th.
    Please bring warm food to the lounge at 11:45. If necessary, food will be warmed in a microwave so please use microwave safe dishes. (Be sure to label the items you leave in the lounge.)

    BAKE SALES FOR CIMI – Attention all 4th and 5th Graders
    Sign up for a Thursday after-school bake sale and earn money for your CIMI camp account. This is an easy way for fourth and fifth graders to earn $50-$75 in one afternoon! Open slots available through the end of the year.

    Brandon t-shirts and sweatshirts are still available for purchase before and after school on Thursday, May 2nd.

    Unisex & Ladies Long-Sleeve T-Shirts for $14 each
    Sizes XS to XXL are available in most items, but supplies are limited so be sure to act now.

    BOWWOW – Only Two Weeks Left!
    Only 2 weeks left in BOWWOW. Please bike or walk this Wednesday to try to win your class the field trip for overall yearly participation. Zodo’s Bowling and Beyond are once again sponsoring it along with our PTA.

    “BRANDON HAS TALENT” VARIETY SHOW – May 2nd at 6:30 pm
    Come be entertained and support our talented Islanders as they perform at the “Brandon Has Talent Variety Show” this Thursday, May 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. Students will sing, dance, act and display outstanding physical talents!

    Our School Gardens Installation Coordinator, Ramsey Cronk, is offering a one-hour workshop to get everyone familiar with the basics of the garden. This is a great opportunity for us to receive FREE training and to solidify our garden community. We are looking to include all who can help sustain and gain from access and easy usage of the garden. Parents and all teachers welcome. Tuesday, May 7th from 3:00-4:00 pm. Please RSVP to Jana Brody at janabrody@yahoo.com

    Information regarding Brandon Elementary School’s after-school enrichment classes and other community events is provided as a service to families of students at Brandon Elementary School. The Brandon PTA is neither sponsoring nor endorsing the enrichment classes or events or the agencies/businesses providing the classes/events.
    An AmTryke Bike Show and Ride Day will be held in Santa Barbara on Tuesday, April 30th from 3:00-7:00 pm in the parking lot of the Living Faith Center at 4597 Hollister Avenue, Santa Barbara (across from the Page Youth Center).
    AmTryke has an assortment of adaptive trykes especially designed for a variety of individuals with special needs. Toddler, children and adult trykes/bike models will be on display and made available for a “test Ride” — just bring helmets, please! Volunteers will assist to make sure the child/adult is fitted properly for an AmTryke of his or her own. For families needing financial support, their child can be placed on our national Wish List to receive an AmTryke. This is a national, non-profit group that raises funds to assist parents in providing these tyrkes/bikes to children.
